Powering Our Future: The Battery Appeal

Powering Our Future: The Battery Appeal

Can you help the club reach it's Sustainability Goals?

Hello all,

The countdown is officially on, there are now fewer than 100 days until the start of the cricket season!

As we prepare for a big year ahead, we wanted to share an update on our club’s sustainability goals. As many of you know, we successfully installed solar panels last August. This was a massive step forward in reducing our carbon footprint and controlling our energy costs for 2026 and beyond.

However, we have hit a small technical hurdle. Our current setup includes just one battery. Because of our lovely (but shading!) trees around the clubhouse, our panels stop charging the battery around 3:00 PM. Since most of our energy is used in the evenings, we often discharge that single battery and have to switch back to the grid before the sun comes up the next day.

The Goal: Total Self-Sufficiency If we can install a second battery, we can store enough energy during the bright morning hours to power the club through the entire night until sunrise. This would effectively make the club energy self-sufficient.

How You Can Help

The cost for the second battery and installation is £1,800.

We are looking for an individual, a group of members, or a local businesses who might be interested in sponsoring this specific project. By helping us eliminate our electricity bills for good, you allow us to divert those savings directly back into our coaching and training programmes for the players.

Whether it is the full amount or a partial contribution, every bit helps us reach this goal before the first ball is bowled this summer.

If you or your company would like to help us "go green" for the 2026 season, please get in touch with me (James Penfold), and we can have an informal discussion about options available.

Thank you for your ongoing support!
