A devastating spell of 4/8 from Poppy Thorneloe and a six-laden 67 from Ryan Anderson headlined another busy week for Newdigate Cricket Club, with five wins from nine matches including a one-wicket thriller for the Under 13s and the 1st XI making it five league wins on the trot.

Senior Men's Cricket

The 1st XI kept their winning run going with a hard-fought 14-run victory away at Capel. Batting first, Newdigate posted 207 all out, built around a blistering 67 off just 37 balls from Ryan Anderson, featuring 9 fours and 5 sixes. Ruky Wickremasinghe (37) and Andrew Kehl (31) provided valuable support. Defending 207, Allan Cooper was superb up front with 3/17 from 9 overs including 5 maidens, while Andrew Kehl backed up his runs with 3/47 and Joseph Haynes took 2/34. Capel threatened at 173/8 through Ashley Smith's 66, but Newdigate held their nerve to bowl them out for 193.

The 2nd XI came off second best at home to Redhill Warriors, who posted 246/8 before bowling Newdigate out for 162. Aiden Jones (2/42) and Khatib Hashim (2/52) led the attack. In reply, Matthew Clarke played a fine hand of 50 and Charlie Stimpson entertained with a rapid 30 off 22 balls, but the target proved too steep.

Women's Cricket

The Womens 1st XI produced the performance of the week, skittling Leatherhead for just 38 in 11.1 overs. Poppy Thorneloe was close to unplayable with 4/8 from her 3 overs, well supported by Millie Guthrie (1/7), Georgina Hunter (1/9) and Jess Turner, who took a wicket with her only ball. The reply took just 4.5 overs, Thorneloe finishing unbeaten on 8 to complete a 7-wicket win.

Junior Cricket

The Under 13s edged an absolute thriller against Capel on Thursday night. Hamish Muir (3/13), Samuel Thorneloe (2/19) and Ishaan Chandra Sekaran (2/20) bowled Capel out for 101, and after a mid-innings wobble Newdigate scrambled home at 102/9 with one wicket to spare — Harry Oakley top-scoring with 23 and Henry Hawkes seeing them over the line on 10 not out.

The Under 9s ran riot against Merstham, piling up 210/1 before restricting the Eagles to 83/7 for a huge 157-run win — the biggest margin of the week. Oscar Butt the star with 37 runs and a 3-for.

The Under 10 Sixers were also in dominant form against Lingfield. Harris Bladen (33 retired not out) and B Browning (32 retired not out) starred in a total of 126/5, before George Crutcher produced remarkable figures of 2/1 and Charlie Glanville took 2/9 as Lingfield were bowled out for 75.

The Under 14 Knights had a tougher Sunday against Rose Hill, who posted 164/3 despite Austin Hunter's 2/31. Kazuya Foster (21) and Austin Hunter (21) led the reply, but 101/9 left them 63 runs short.

The Under 11s fell 25 runs short against Croydon, who were bowled out for 136 — Teilo Curphey excellent with 2/8. Kellan Gregory hit a punchy 24 off 15 balls and James Smith made 19 in the chase, but Newdigate were dismissed for 111.

The Under 12s went down by 8 wickets to Epsom on Monday, despite Harris Bladen's 30 retired not out and Teilo Curphey's unbeaten 22 in a total of 110.
