Newdigate Innings

Sent in to bat, Newdigate started confidently thanks to Georgina Hunter and Poppy Thorneloe. Georgina anchored calmly with 8 from 11 balls, while Poppy injected early energy, striking two crisp boundaries in her quick 10 off just 6 balls. Their pair set the tone beautifully with a net contribution of 37 runs.

Henry Edwards and Arthur Dibble faced some tight bowling but worked hard to keep the innings moving, combining for a steady net contribution of 12. Next, Adam Humphrys and Leo Jones added another 12, with Adam playing an important stabilising knock, including two well-timed boundaries.

Kellan Gregory and Samuel Jones battled well to contribute 13, keeping the score ticking despite some accurate overs from Maori Oxshott. Finally, Thomas Shields and Jacob Gregory closed strongly. Thomas top-scored with 7 from 14 balls, supported well by Jacob, as they combined for a valuable 31-run net partnership that helped push Newdigate to a strong finish.

Despite losing 6 wickets (30-run deduction), Newdigate compiled 135 runs from the bat across their 20 overs, resulting in a net score of 305 — an impressive target in pairs cricket.

Maori Oxshott Bowling Highlights

Athalie Crossley Wright was outstanding, finishing with 2 wickets for just 6 runs — an exceptional return in this format. Arlo Blackhurst (1 for 7) and Hugh Crossley Wright (1 for 28) also took important wickets, supported by tight spells from Teddy Keough and Aiden Smeaton. However, extra runs conceded through wides ultimately boosted Newdigate’s final total.

Reflections

This was a fantastic advert for junior cricket: competitive, spirited, and full of learning moments for both sides. Newdigate built their innings around calm partnerships and strong finishing, while Maori Oxshott showed real fight, especially through their final pair’s excellent late surge.

Standout contributions included Poppy Thorneloe’s all-round display, Thomas Shields’ composed batting under pressure, and the fearless effort from Hugh Crossley Wright and Aiden Smeaton.

Both teams should be proud of the skills, energy, and teamwork they displayed on a beautiful morning at Ockham. It was a match played in great spirit — exactly what junior cricket is all about.
