A colt-heavy Newdigate Sunday 2nd XI was hosted by Larkhall Wanderers CC at Epsom Cricket ground on 2nd August to play a 35 over friendly match.
Batting first, Newdigate was looking at an uphill task, as the inexperience of playing the adult matches by the colts was quite obvious. Bosseau Boshoff (22) and skipper Jagadeesh Subbiah (57) held ends, while wickets were falling around them without any other significant contributions. The visitors were bundled out for 94 runs on the 29th over.
In response, Larkhall Wanderers had a big wobble as they lost 3 quick wickets scoring 26 runs. And things started to look interesting. However, Stephen Rabey (22* off 56 balls) anchored while Anthony Hayes’s quick-fire 45 off 39 balls took the game away from Newdigate. The hosts won the match on the 20th over by 7 wickets.
Despite the loss, the Colt-rich Newdigate Sunday 2nd XI will take a lot of learning away from the match – Harry Grimley’s outstanding bowing spell, taking 3 wickets off 5 overs conceding 19 runs is notable.
