Newdigate conceded easy win to Effingham

Sami (Right) and Rob (Left) celebrated their friendship re-union after 3 years with 65 runs partnership
Childhood friends Sami and Rob grew up in a small village in Bangladesh, went to the same primary school, high school. Work separated their ways as both of them moved to the UK, Sami at Surrey and Rob at Hertfordshire, not too far from each other, but they did not manage to find the time to meet in 3 years! Nevertheless, they kept in touch all along.
Sami invited Rob to join him playing the VCL match against Effingham on Sunday 12th July, as there was a vacancy in the team. Rob managed to get the day off and joined Newdigate team on the day. Both Sami and Rob bowled in partnership and later on delivered a partnership of 65 runs in the 4th wicket.
On the main point of this report, the cricket match on the day, it was all a bit one sided affair for the top of the league team Effigham who showed why they are at the top! The captain decided to bat first winning the toss on a 40 overs match. All the Effingham batters scored with amazing striking rates, showed great awareness on the short field on one side. Michael Angus and Conor James both scored well-composed half-centuries, while Oliver Rutherford score 138 runs off 69 balls. The Opening pair scored 102 runs off 18 overs, fall of wickets, bowling change kept bringing the better out of the Effingham batters, who eventually ended scoring a huge 336/5 off 40 overs.
Ian Kehl shone again with 2 wickets, Dencil Antony, Steve Edwards and Monjur Elahi got a wicket each.
Fall of wicket at the start, some consolidation in form of Sami-Carrington, then Sami-Rob partnership kept Newdigate on track for a while as 65 for 2 on board in the 9th over. A big slide happened in between over 11 to 19. Mohammad Ali in a No 7 initiated a counter attack, which did not last long. With 118/7 on the 32nd over, Newdigate was staring down the barrel. Sarah Oram and Monjur Elahi navigated through the rest of the 8 overs taking Newdigate total to 162/7 off 40 overs and in the process securing 1 bonus point out of the loss and denying Effigham further 2 bonus points.
