On Sunday 6 September 2026, Newdigate CC Sunday XI travelled to North Holmwood for a 35-over friendly against Old Dorkinian CC. Winning the toss, Newdigate elected to bat on a surface that offered early movement and demanded patience.
What followed was an entertaining contest of shifting momentum, featuring one outstanding individual innings and a tense chase that went deep into the final overs.
Newdigate's innings got off to a difficult start, with David Callcut (5) and Christian John (3) both dismissed cheaply as the Old Dorkinian bowlers made good use of the early conditions.
With Newdigate under pressure, Andrew Posner took centre stage. His superb 70 from 60 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, was the outstanding batting performance of the afternoon.
Posner combined patience with powerful counter-attacking strokeplay, punishing anything loose while continuing to score despite wickets falling at the other end. His two sixes were particularly memorable, clearing the sizeable North Holmwood boundary and demonstrating just how cleanly he was striking the ball.
He found an excellent partner in Monjur Elahi, who contributed a valuable 21 from 28 balls. The pair steadied the innings and rebuilt the Newdigate effort with a crucial 50-run fourth-wicket partnership, taking the visitors into a much stronger position by the 18th over.
However, Elahi's dismissal triggered a flurry of wickets and Newdigate's momentum began to stall. The innings needed a late push, and Dencil Antony provided exactly that, finishing unbeaten with a composed 27 from 28 balls.
Newdigate eventually closed their 35 overs on 173 for 7, setting Old Dorkinian a competitive target.

Old Dorkinian began their chase with calm intent, building partnerships and keeping the required run rate under control.
Newdigate's bowlers created opportunities and continued to apply pressure, but the hosts' middle order showed good composure. They rotated the strike effectively and capitalised whenever the bowling strayed from its disciplined line.
As the innings entered its final third, Newdigate fought back with important wickets, bringing the game firmly into contention. With the target still within reach, Old Dorkinian's lower order showed impressive resilience, finding runs through a mixture of singles, twos and well-judged shots.
Mark De Vrij gave Newdigate a vital boost with an excellent spell of 7 overs for 33 runs and 2 wickets, while Dencil Antony also claimed 2 wickets. The other Newdigate bowlers produced tidy spells, but the inability to take enough wickets earlier in the innings ultimately proved costly.
With the game finely balanced, Old Dorkinian finally reached the target in the 34th over, finishing on 174 for 7 to secure a narrow three-wicket victory.
