Stunners CC visited Newdigiate CC Sunday XI on 4th May 25 for a 40 overs friendly match. The pitch was moderately dry, the sun was shining when the toss was done, Newdigate won the toss and invited Stunners to bat first.
Jon Bell claimed the first wicket on the 2nd over of the Stunners innings. It took a long time get to the second wicket which come when Stunners raced to 140 in 19 overs. Newdigate’s bowling took a bit of beating during that period from Abhinav Goel (47) and Dev Datt (78 not out). Little cameos from Yogesh (16), Mandar (31), Rohit (15) and a late surge from Anuj (28) helped Stunners posting a challenging total of 245 when the were all out on the 37th over.
Santhos Vijayan (19/1 off 5 overs) contained the Stunners batters, Jagadeesh Subbiah (26/3 off 5 overs) were effective and Monjur Elahi got crucial break-through (21/3 off 3.3 overs). The other bowlers were guilty of bowling some way-ward bowling which costed some runs.
Newdigate innings followed the same template as Stunners - lost an early wicket, carried on with a century partnership. The opener David Callcut scored his consecutive second half century for the Sunday team in this season (53). Jagadeesh (47) and Santhosh (65) carried on with the momentum. Newdigate reached 200 runs on the 32nd over. A win was on the cards, with 5 wickets in hand, but the Stunners bowlers came back strong claiming wickets in regular intervals. Newdigate fell short by 11 runs in the end as the innings folded scoring 234 runs on the 40th over.
Yogesh (35/9 off 9 overs) caused the Newdigate batters the major concerns. Abhinav (26/2 off 4 overs) and Rohit (47/2 off 8 overs) came to party to stall Newdigate’s progress.
The visitor claimed a win by 11 runs in the end which offered a lots of excitement, demonstration of goodwill and fellowship.
