We might have struggled to get a team together, but 8 drove out to face Oxted and Limpsfield at Grub Street tonight, having won the toss, we elected to field.

With some of our key players missing this season, we knew we had to keep a tight field and the team worked hard to keep the run rate low with some great fielding. Rachel Lyndon started the fall of wickets, taking one in the 2nd and 8th over. Charlie Collard (Captain) followed with a further one in the 13th over. Bella Whitton put in a great performance in her bowling debut, she was unfortunate with a injury to her eye and finished the game in A&E. No lasting damage and we hope she is back with us very soon.

Oxted & Limpsfield finished the innings on 87.

Sarah Oram opened the batting with Vicky Clack and immediately found the boundary on a slow outfield. A quick succession of wickets from Oxted, including an awesome catch on the boundary put the pressure on Newdigate until Pippa Bennett went in to bat. She and Sarah made a good team pushing up the runs to 63 until the 13th over when she was run out. With a batter down we knew it would be last man standing, and that was the wonderful Sarah Oram, Hitting a boundary in the 15th over to push us to 88 and take the win.

The ladies at Oxted were a really friendly bunch and the game was played in good spirits. A promising start to the season and a renewed confidence from the Newdigate Ladies.
