The Ninjas were down to a skeleton crew this week heading to Headley for the Ashtead away fixture, but things looked up as we won the toss and chose to field.
Jacqui and Anna opened the bowling on great form holding Ashtead to 17 runs off the first 4 overs, but the Ninjas struggled to get the wickets in the first half of the innings. Changing ends at 8 overs seemed to make all the difference and the stalemate was broken when Anna took a great catch, bowled by Jacqui. Newdigate kept tight in the field and the run count stayed low, but it wasn't until the 14th over when the 2nd wicket fell, a superb bowl from Anna who had been on top form throughout the innings. Two further catches in the 15th over from Jacqui and Harriet helped Karen's wicket count as the heavens opened. The 16th over was a bit of a comedy sketch, with a downpour in bright sunshine, Harriet did brilliantly well as we scrambled to finish the innings and get into the dry, Newdigate were chasing 77.
It was looking 50/50 as to whether the weather would let us keep playing, the rain kept falling but the promise of blue sky was all around. After a slightly longer break, the Umpires declared the pitch playable and Anna and Sarah went out to open the batting.
Sarah Power dealt with the technically impressive Ashtead bowling well, playing some great shots until she was caught LBW in the 3rd over. Jacqui went in and alongside Anna and the pair found the boundary 7 times between them before a slightly dubious LBW saw Anna walking. Harriet replaced her and held her nerve, it looked like the pair would see the innings out when a slightly slower ball caught Jacqui out in the 12 over with Newdigate on 68 runs. Del Posner stepped in and found the boundary a couple of times putting an end to the match in the 13th over.
Another good performance from the Ninjas in the SLAM!
