Newdigate won the toss and elected to bat.
Anna Lewis and Del Posner opened the innings and set the tone for our highest score of the league this year, Anna being caught LBW on 52 runs having found the boundary 10 times, and Del being bowled on 28 with 6 4s. Both Charlie Collard and Jacqui-Ann Goldsmid retired not out on 60 and 62 runs respectively, Charlie hitting 6 6's and Jacqui amassing 13 4s. Sarah Oram and Amelia Brien also batted brilliantly, with 33 and 23 runs respectively pushing Newdigate to 291 runs for the innings.
Following a lovely, and first ever league tea for the Ladies, we went out to try and finish the game before the forecast rain set in.
Newdigate were tight in the field and Merstham struggled to break through, Jacqui took two wickets from her superb bowling, then 4 catches in the field, 2 by Sarah Oram, 1 by Charlie Collard and 1 by Jacqui held Merstham to 104 runs. Abi Ransome made her Sunday cricket debut and proved her worth in the field at mid wicket.
The heavens opened in the 19th over and Duckworth Lewis rules were applied, Newdigate won the game by 125 runs.
Special mention to Del who fielded in shin pads for part of the game trying to stop her legs getting bruised for her upcoming wedding on Wednesday! All the best Del for your special day.
