Newdigate 1st XI made an excellent start to their 2026 league season with a well‑earned 31‑run victory over Wallington 1st XI, defending 241 in a competitive and hard-fought contest.

After losing the toss and being asked to bat first on a decent surface, Newdigate responded with intent and positivity. Kian Bradley set the tone at the top of the order, playing with freedom and aggression on his way to an impressive 59, giving the innings early momentum and putting Wallington immediately under pressure.

The defining passage of the innings came through a superb 99‑run partnership between Daniel Harrington and Steven Kehl. Harrington was in commanding touch throughout, mixing controlled stroke‑play with well‑timed aggression as he compiled a high‑quality 78. Kehl supported him brilliantly, contributing a valuable 42 and ensuring the scoreboard continued to move at a healthy rate. Although wickets fell towards the back end of the innings, Newdigate’s earlier work ensured they reached a competitive total of 241 all out.

Wallington approached their chase with intent, looking to counter‑attack and disrupt Newdigate’s rhythm. However, the Newdigate bowlers remained disciplined, consistently hitting good areas and refusing to allow any prolonged partnerships to develop. George Daniels delivered the standout spell of the innings, taking three crucial wickets and swinging the momentum firmly in Newdigate’s favour. Ruky Wickremasinghe added two important breakthroughs, while Harrington capped a superb all‑round performance by claiming two wickets of his own.

Just as Wallington threatened to rebuild, Joe Haynes struck twice in the middle overs, removing key batters and halting their progress at a vital stage. From there, Newdigate maintained control, fielded with energy, and continued to apply pressure until the visitors were eventually bowled out for 210.
