Under 12s get their first win, 1st XI go three in a row, and the Under 10s clutch a thriller against Purley

Another busy week for Newdigate Cricket Club, with the 1st XI continuing their fine league form and a standout individual performance from Daniel Harrington, while the Under 12s and Under 11s picked up well-earned wins

Senior Men's Cricket

The 1st XI produced another excellent display away at Old Whitgiftians, posting 267/9 before bowling their hosts out for 205 to secure a comfortable victory. Daniel Harrington was the star with the bat, playing a superb innings of 92, and Stephen Kehl chipped in with a punchy 50. David Farrington once again provided a solid platform with 49 at the top. With the ball, Jon Bell (3/24), Allan Cooper (2/28) and Andrew Kehl (2/36) were the pick, with Joseph Haynes and Ruky Wickremasinghe also contributing.

Hook and Southborough posted a competitive 254/3, however the 2nd XI were unable to chase it down in their 40 overs, finishing 201 for 8. Jagadeesh Subbiah was outstanding with the bat, scoring 81, while Thomas Gross (43) and Toby Wells (34) also made useful contributions. Aiden Jones and Austin Hunter each picked up a wicket.


Sunday Cricket

The Sunday XI were set 228 by Worplesdon & Burpham, who declared on 227/9 with Jack Lenton striking an impressive 131 not out. Newdigate made a spirited reply, with Shahariar Sami carrying the innings magnificently with 62 not out and Aiden Jones contributing 16 lower down. Mohammad Ali bowled tidily, taking 3/39, but Newdigate fell short on 164/8, resulting in a faster-scoring draw.

Junior Cricket

Against Oxted and Limpsfield, the Under 13s suffered an initial top-order collapse, stumbling to a tough 3-5. Teddy Sponder (16*) and Lawrence Apsley (15) led a vital middle-order fightback to rescue the innings, eventually steering the side to 85 all out in 17.2 overs. Defending a low total, Newdigate fought hard with the ball and clawed back into the game with a flurry of late wickets. Ishaan Chandra Sekaran bowled a fantastic, economical spell to take 2-4, while Theo Axtell also claimed a brace with 2-8. Teilo Curphey picked up the remaining wicket as Oxted chased down the target in 14.4 overs.

The Under 12s secured a fine home win over Epsom, chasing down 96 with 7 wickets in hand and more than 2 overs to spare. Ishaan Chandra Sekaran led the way with 31 retired not out, and Thomas Shields (24 not out) finished the job calmly. With the ball, wickets were spread nicely across the side, with Riley Younge, Poppy Thorneloe, Ishaan Chandra Sekaran and Thomas Shields each taking one.

The Under 10 Sixers claimed another league win against Purley, reaching 108/8 to chase down 106. Harris Bladen top-scored with 22 and George Crutcher made 16, while George Butt was excellent with the ball, taking 3 wickets.

The Under 9s went down to Oxted & Limpsfield in their pairs match, finishing on a net score of 294 to 305. Oscar Butt (28) and Bertie Edwards (20) were the standout batters, with Oscar Butt also taking 3 wickets and William Archer Haddow and George Cole chipping in with one apiece.

The Under 10 Yorkers lost a close pairs contest away at Kenley, finishing on a net score of 291 to 298. William Archer Haddow (12) and Arlo Trayling (11) were the top scorers, while Libby Shields and William Archer Haddow took two wickets apiece.

Star Player Shoutouts

- Daniel Harrington (1st XI) – 92, a near-century and the backbone of the innings
- Stephen Kehl (1st XI) – 50, a typically punchy contribution
- Jon Bell (1st XI) – 3/24, excellent with the new ball
- Jagadeesh Subbiah (2nd XI) – 81, a fine innings in a strong batting display
- Shahariar Sami (Sunday XI) – 62 not out, kept Newdigate competitive throughout
- Ishaan Chandra Sekaran (Under 12) – 31 retired not out, set up the chase
- George Butt (Under 10 Sixers) – 3 wickets in another strong all-round display
- Oscar Butt (Under 9) – 28 and 3 wickets in a fine individual performance
