Week 7 showed some much improved performances! The Under 10s continue to shine

What a difference a week can make! The 1st XI bounce back and the Under 9s, 10s & 11s continue to lead the way!

It was another action-packed week for Newdigate Cricket Club, with the 1st XI securing a fine league victory and several junior sides putting in strong performances.

Senior Men's Cricket

The 1st XI delivered an excellent all-round display at Pixham Lane, bowling Dorking 2nd XI out for 141 and then chasing it down comfortably with 7 wickets in hand. Joseph Haynes was outstanding with the ball, taking 5 wickets for just 17 runs, with Ben Crook (2/18) and Allan Cooper (2/24) providing strong support. With the bat, Ryan Anderson played a superb captain's innings of 66 not out, ably supported by David Farrington (31) and Thomas Gross (20).

The 2nd XI posted 143/8 at home against Blue Wings but couldn't defend it, with Blue Wings chasing it down in just 23 overs. David Callcut top-scored with 40, and James Penfold contributed a gritty 22 not out. Aiden Jones (2/36) was the pick of the bowlers.

Sunday Cricket

The Sunday XI batted first against Old Dorkinian, posting 120/8 off 35 overs. Thomas Clark top-scored with 32, with Redwan Ahmed (22) and Monjur Elahi (23 not out) providing substance in the middle order. Sadly that was not enough, and ODs chased the total down in easy time.

Junior Cricket

The Under 13s were beaten by Horley in a tight contest, falling just one run short as Horley reached 86/8 chasing Newdigate's 85/3. Harry Oakley top-scored with 20 and Monty Curphey made a patient 12 not out. Ethan Letts took 2 wickets with the ball, along with Theo Axtell (2/18).

The Under 12s went down to Woodmansterne despite a spirited batting effort, finishing on 129/7 chasing 167. Poppy Thorneloe (27) and Riley Younge (23 not out) batted well, while Ishaan Chandra Sekaran took 3 wickets in the field.

The Under 11s recorded a convincing win over Banstead, chasing down 140 with 3 wickets down. George Butt (32 retired not out) and Teilo Curphey (31 retired not out) were both excellent with the bat, while the bowling was shared across the side with George Butt, Henry Penfold, Jack Austin and Kellan Gregory each taking a wicket.

The Under 10 Sixers won a brilliant game against Sutton, reaching 121/4 to win by 6 wickets. George Butt retired not out on 30 and Barney Browning made 21 not out. George Butt also took a wicket with the ball.

The Under 9s won their pairs match against Banstead with a net score of 175 to 170. Bertie Edwards was the standout batter with 23, followed by George Smith (21) and Samuel Williams (20). Monty Ludlam and George Edwards each took 2 wickets.

A strong weekend of cricket across the club — the 1st XI's victory was particularly impressive, and the juniors continue to show great fight across all age groups!
